2020 Jaguar XE pricing and specs

The big cat's BMW 3 Series fighter has gained a bolder face, improved interior trim, a simplified lineup, and technology borrowed from the I-Pace.

The updated Jaguar XE has been revealed, with pricing to kick off at $65,670 before on-road costs when the dramatically slimmed-down range arrives locally.

According Jaguar Land Rover, the revised exterior is inspired by the F-Type. The front end benefits from slimmer looking full LED headlamps, and restyled air intakes.

At the rear, the tail-lights are now an all-LED affair with new graphics, and a slender housing with an F-Type-style dip. The bumpers have gained a few extra creases, and the diffuser section made more prominent with a splash of colour.

The interior has been upgraded with the improved materials, including more soft-touch materials, new door trims, a stitched leather-like covering for the dashboard top, and a more traditional gear shifter in place of the outgoing model's rotary dial.

Items borrowed from the all-electric I-Pace include the Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, and the new steering wheel, which features graphics that hidden until they are lit up.

The local XE range has been slimmed down from 11 to just two trim lines (SE and HSE). Both are available solely with the 221kW 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol engine, and come with an eight-speed automatic and the R-Dynamic styling pack fitted as standard. That means the diesel, and the supercharged V6 S, are dead.

The SE R-Dynamic starts from $65,670 before on-road costs, and includes 18-inch alloy wheels, leather-clad seats with electric adjustment up front, a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, lane keeping assistance, DAB+ digital radio, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

Kicking off from $71,940 before on-roads, HSE R-Dynamic gains 19-inch rims, the Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, Meridian sound system, high-speed autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, 18-way electronically adjustable front seats with memory settings on the driver's side, and electric steering column adjustment.

The XE's options are split into five packages. The Dynamic Handling Pack ($2090) includes improved brakes with coloured calipers, a boot lid spoiler, and an adaptive dynamics system.

The Cold Climate Pack ($1010) adds headlight washers, a heated windscreen, and a heated steering wheel to the car.

Ticking the Technology Pack ($2160 SE, $1710 HSE) adds a head-up display, solar windscreen, digital instrumentation display, wireless smartphone charging, and a rear-view camera in place of the interior mirror. It also includes the Touch Pro Duo infotainment unit on SE models.

If you want hand-free boot operation, keyless entry, and more power sockets you'll have to opt for the Convenience Pack ($1050 SE, $750 HSE).

Lastly the Premium Interior Upgrade Pack ($1010) includes illuminated sill plates, metal-covered pedals, and configurable ambient lighting.

Along with the packages, the usual array of options from JLR are available. A panoramic sunroof is $1900, while most of the individual options from the packages can be ordered separately, should you so desire.

The new XE is available to order now.
