Audi Q8 45 TDI launches in Europe
German marque adds new entry-level diesel model to fastback crossover family in its home market. However, nothing is planned for Australia at this stage.
Audi has launched a new 45 TDI variant of its Q8 in Europe this week, joining the 50 TDI and 55 TFSI in the overseas line-up.
The 45 TDI is essentially a de-tuned version of the 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel with the same 48V mild-hybrid technology offered in the 50 TDI, making 170kW and 500Nm in this application. Peak torque is available from 1370-4500rpm.
According to the four-ringed marque, the Q8 45 TDI will do 0-100km/h in 7.1 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 233km/h.
Like the wider range, the 45 TDI sends drive to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic, with combined fuel consumption rated between 6.4 and 6.7L/100km depending on wheel and tyre configuration.
Audi's European division has also launched the 55 TFSI this week, which is already on sale in Australia featuring a 250kW/500Nm 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 petrol with mild-hybrid tech.
The sole petrol option for now sprints from 0-100km/h in a hot hatch-rivalling 5.9 seconds, on its way to an electronically-governed top speed of 250km/h.
Pricing for the new 45 TDI model starts at €73,300 ($116,400.89) in Germany, while the 55 TFSI kicks off at €76,300 ($121,164.91).
Australia
Speaking with CarAdvice, Audi's local arm had nothing to add regarding the expansion of the Q8 range in Australia.
The 55 TFSI launched in January, and will be joined by the 50 TDI in the middle of the year.
