2020 Holden Commodore spied

The updated Opel Insignia – known locally as the Holden Commodore – has been snapped by photographers this week in Europe, giving an early look as to what to expect from the mid-life refresh.

From what we can see in the images, the Commodore/Insignia has most of its changes focused around the front end, with minimal camouflage at the rear.

We're expecting the main revisions to be focused on the front bumper and grille, along with the headlights.

At the rear, there's some black tape around the tail-lights, though the shape of the lighting units appear to be the same with lightly-revised internals.

Images of the interior aren't available at this stage, but we're expecting to see changes to the materials and trims, and an updated infotainment system – it's unclear whether the Insignia will stick with MyLink or move to a PSA-sourced infotainment system given its new ownership.

There should be some changes under the bonnet, too, with a revised line-up of turbocharged petrol and diesel powertrains, with the potential for some PSA Group engines.

As for timing, it's likely the updated Insignia will be revealed in the coming months, though whether the new model is rebranded as a Holden for the Australian market remains to be seen.

Recent reports have cast a cloud of doubt over the Commodore's future in Australia, though there is talk of PSA's local distributor, Inchcape, re-introducing the Opel brand Down Under which would see the Astra and Insignia return to local showrooms with their original badging.
