Cupra teases its first standalone model

The new concept car previews the marque's first 'exclusive vehicle', and it looks to be a high-performance crossover.

Seat has teased a new Cupra concept car, which will be unveiled on February 22, European time.

The debut of the new concept is timed to coincide with the brand's first anniversary as a standalone marque.

Few details have been confirmed about the new car, although the company says it "mixes the benefits of a performance car and an SUV".

Rumours indicate Cupra's first unique model will be based on the Ateca crossover. Judging from the teaser image, it will have smoother surfacing than regular Seat models, as well as a more prominent shoulder line.

We expect it will feature a version of the Volkswagen Group's 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and all-wheel drive. In all likelihood it will have more power than 221kW Cupra Ateca.

A report last in year in the Spanish press indicated Cupra intends to launch seven new models by 2021, and most will be heated up versions of Seat vehicles.
