Polestar 2 teased ahead of February 27 reveal

There's a new rival for the Tesla Model 3 coming, and it's launching soon. The Polestar 2 will be revealed in two weeks, and is expected to land formally in 2020.

Polestar, sub-brand of Volvo, has teased its second production model ahead of its reveal on February 27.

The inventively-named Polestar 2, which is gunning straight for the Tesla Model 3, will be a pure EV with a driving range somewhere in the realm of 400km.

Based on the teaser, the 2 will run with a slightly slimmer, edgier take on the taillight signature being developed on the S90 and S60 sedans across its bootlid. Where the red strip linking the lights on the S90 is at the top of the boot, it underlines the badge on the Polestar.

Previous teasers have revealed the electric sedan will debut Android-based infotainment for Volvo, as it prepares to replace the Sensus system in its current range.

The interface of the new Android-based system is an evolution of today's Volvo setup, but has a much tighter integration with Google's services, including Maps and Calendar, and apps available through the Play Store, such as Spotify.

The infotainment units running the Android operating system will also be used by Volvo when it starts rolling out cars based on the second-generation Scalable Product Architecture (SPA).

The Polestar 2 will be unveiled on February 27, and is scheduled to go on sale globally from 2020. The car will be built at a new factory in Chengdu, China.
