2019 Fiat 500C Spiaggina ’58 confirmed for Australia
Fiat's cute little Riviera baby is bound for our shores, but you'll need to get in quickly. Just 30 examples are set for our market, with a choice of manual or automatic.
Fiat Chrysler Australia has confirmed the throwback 500 Spiaggina '58 special edition is headed for our shores, priced from $25,990 before on-road costs and available right now.
Back in the 1950s, the 500 Jolly Spiaggina was a fixture on the Italian Riviera, shuttling wealthy jet-setters around glamorous beachside resorts. With a stable economy came money, and the cute little beachside Fiat became a glamorous luxury designed to put a smile on your face.
Today's example is designed to do more than just run wealthy travellers to the beach, obviously. A total of 1958 examples will be built worldwide, with just 30 of those bound for Australia.
Every single '58 special is finished in pale Volare Blue – a nod to the song Volare, described by Fiat as 'soundtrack to the Dolce Vita years' – contrasting with a beige roof, polished wheels, and chrome brightwork. It's about as old-fashioned as you could expect a modern car to look, given how far pedestrian safety rules have come.
There are ivory highlights and piping on the seats, branded floor mats, and extra 500 badging scattered around the cabin, along with the usual 7.0-inch infotainment system featuring smartphone mirroring.
Although other small cars offer far more in-cabin technology, the original Spiaggina offered nothing in the way of infotainment. Progress, huh.
Power comes from a 1.2L petrol engine, mated with a choice of five-speed manual or five-speed automated manual. The former is priced from $25,990 before on-roads, the latter $27,490.
