2019 Mazda MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition unveiled, 30 for Australia
30 years after the original model made its global debut at the Chicago motor show, a new limited-edition model has stepped out on the stage in the Windy City.
Mazda's ever-popular convertible is turning 30. That's right, the MX-5 (Miata if you live in some parts of the world) has hit the big three-oh. To celebrate, it's been decked out in a special shade of Racing Orange, in following a theme initially laid out by the 10th Anniversary model.
The unique hue is also used for the car's brake calipers, and throughout the interior, including the stitching, seat piping, vent surrounds, and door trim.
Other unique features include a numbered build plate ornament, Recaro seats, and Alcantara highlights for the doors, dashboard and centre-section of the seats.
The car rides on specially-designed black RAYS ZE40 RS30 forged alloy wheels and Bilstein dampers. Stopping ability comes courtesy of Brembo brake calipers at the front, and Nissin units at the rear.
Based on the 2.0-litre GT model, the MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition has 135kW of power and 205Nm of torque to its name.
Australia
Just 3000 MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition models will be sold worldwide, with 30 soft-top models allocated for the Australian market. Buyers overseas can also buy the Anniversary Edition with a retractable hardtop.
Mazda Australia says the limited edition model "will be offered to Mazda’s loyal MX-5 customers on a first come first served basis" via electronic direct marketing.
