2019 Audi A1 Allroad spied again

High-riding city-friendly hatch spotted in the extreme cold of northern Europe, ahead of a likely debut sometime later this year.

The Audi A1 Allroad has been spied once more, this time doing a spot of cold weather testing in Sweden.

Compared to the regular A1, this off-road-style variant has taller ride height, different front and rear bumper designs, revised side sills, and, possibly, some extra protection for the wheel arches.

Unlike the prototype spotted back in October 2018 on the Nurburgring, this vehicle is a lower-spec model, as evidenced by the the non-LED head- and tail-light fittings. This car also rides on smaller alloy wheels and higher profile tyres.

The A1 isn't currently offered with all-wheel drive, and it's not known if this high-riding version will get it as an option or, even, as standard.

Should this A1 variant be branded as an Allroad, it could well be the first one unable to send any torque to the rear wheels. It would also be the smallest Allroad model, being several sizes smaller than the A4 Allroad.

It's not known which drivetrains will be offered in the high-riding A1, but the regular hatch will initially be offered in Europe with engines ranging from a 70kW 1.0-litre through to a 147kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder.

The roof-mounted spotlights are likely to remain a prototype-only feature, alas.
