Hispano Suiza ‘Carmen’: Electric supercar teased

The Hispano Suiza 'Carmen' will make its official debut at the 2019 Geneva motor show, which takes place at the beginning of March.

Described as a "fully-electric hyperlux grand tourer", the new Carmen will have a carbon-fibre monocoque body, and styling inspired by the 1938 Dubonnet Xenia.

The car's electric drivetrain is being developed by QEV Technologies, a Barcelona-based electric propulsion engineering firm, which also manages Mahindra's Formula E team and has worked with Chinese automaker BAIC.

According to the Spanish automaker, the Carmen is being designed and developed around the company's headquarters in Barcelona, Spain.

The supercar will also be built in the Catalan capital, although timing and pricing have yet to be confirmed.

The Carmen is the second recent attempt to revive the Hispano Suiza brand. In 2010 an Audi R8-based supercar was unveiled at the Geneva motor show, but failed to enter production.

Founded in 1904, Hispano Suiza made around 12,000 vehicles before 1946 when it sold off its car-making division. From there on the company concentrated on its aerospace activities before being bought up by French firm Snecma.
