Just 400 examples will be offered worldwide, and there's a handful coming to our market. With a unique exterior finish and standard options for the cabin, it's straight out of the launch edition copybook.

BMW has unveiled a limited-run version of the M850i xDrive, dubbed the First Edition, with eight of the 400 cars being offered worldwide coming to Australia.

Power comes from the same 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine offered in the 'standard' M850i xDrive, with 390kW and 750Nm put to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Separating the First Edition from the 'regular' model is a special Frozen Barcelona Blue metallic paint finish, combined with a high-gloss black shadow treatment for the exterior brightwork.

Also contrasting with the blue exterior paint is a set of 20-inch alloy wheels, finished in Jet Black. Both the carbon-fibre roof and carbon-fibre exterior trim package will be optional.

Behind the wheel, BMW has rifled through its Individual catalogue and dug out a set of white and black Merino Leather seats, along with an M steering wheel and Alcantara headliner finished in Night Blue.

With the Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, a crystal glass gearstick and iDrive controller, and gloss black console trim adorned with First Edition, 1/400 branding, there aren't really any options to be added.

BMW Australia has confirmed eight examples of the First Edition will be making the journey Down Under. Pricing hasn't been confirmed, but the M850i xDrive coupe will cost $272,900 before on-road costs.

Expect to see a slight increase on that figure for the special edition.
