Porsche Taycan to come with free public charging in the US
Models bound for the US will include three years of free charging on the Electrify America network, as Porsche looks to get its electric vehicle range off the ground.
The Porsche Taycan, the company's first fully electric model, will have limited free access to the Electrify America public charging network for the first three years of its life.
American Taycan owners can use Electrify America's chargers for up to 30 minutes at a time for free. By the middle of 2019, Electrify America plans to have around 2000 charging bays installed at 484 locations throughout the United Staes.
Around 300 of these spots will be located on highways, spaced no more than 190 kilometres apart. The remainder of the locations will be in metropolitan areas.
Sites will have an average of five chargers, with some featuring 10 charging stations. There will be at least two 350kW chargers at each location, with the remainder capable of delivering up to 150kW.
Electrify America is a subsidiary of Volkswagen, which set up as part of the company's settlement over the Dieselgate scandal.
In addition to Electrify America's public charging network, Porsche says all 191 of its US dealers will install DC fast charging stations. Most will be 320kW units, with the remainder rated at 50kW.
The automaker says it will soon reveal a fast charging unit that can be installed in private homes and garages.
Deliveries of the Taycan in Europe and North America are scheduled begin later this year, with the car due in Australia some time in 2020.

Porsche says it's still working through plans for charging infrastructure in Australia, and therefore couldn't confirm whether a similar deal would be offered Down Under.
Each Porsche Centre will have charging infrastructure of some sort when Taycan launches in Australia in 2020, however.
