Land Rover UK has revealed a special-edition Discovery to celebrate three decades since the nameplate launched, complete with a smattering of optional extras.
Unlike Mini, which developed a new logo, special paint finishes and unique puddle lighting for its 60th Anniversary specials, the design team at Land Rover has taken a low-key approach with the Anniversary Edition.
The limited-run Anniversary Edition, of which just 400 will be made, comes with a set of 22-inch alloy wheels, a fixed panoramic roof, privacy glass, a 380W audio system, and metallic paint standard.
Even the four colours on offer are low-key: black, grey, blue or silver. At least you're saving some money – Land Rover says buyers are getting £6820 ($12,300) of extra gear compared to the regular Discovery Sd6 SE on which the Anniversary Edition is based.
"The Discovery family represents the pinnacle of versatility, and we are proud to celebrate that lineage," said Rawdon Glover, Jaguar Land Rover UK managing director.
"Discovery has evolved in its 30-year history to consistently bring technology, capability and relevance to the ever-changing motoring community."
Launched in 1989, the Discovery is now into its fifth generation. The current car, with its slinky looks and asymmetrical tailgate, represents a huge departure from its boxy predecessors.
Sales for the car were up 13.8 per cent on 2017 in Australia last year, making it second only to the Range Rover Sport for sales in the Land Rover line-up.
We've contacted Land Rover Australia to see if there are any plans to offer a similar special edition locally. Stay tuned for more.
