2019 BMW 7 Series facelift teased

BMW's bigger-than-ever new grille design the centrepiece of this year's 7 Series refresh.

BMW has teased the soon-to-be-revealed 7 Series facelift, previewing the flagship limousine's interpretation of the grille-heavy face debuted on the new X7.

In news that'll surprise no-one, the mid-life update for the 7er (LCI, or Life Cycle Impulse in BMW speak) is going polarise opinion. Even in the shadowy teaser it's clear the Kidney Grille protrudes into the bonnet, and runs well below the base of the slim new headlights, just as it does on the X7.

Earlier leaks have confirmed the new snout, which will likely continue rolling out across the BMW range, will also include a tougher bumper design with bigger intakes, a bulging bonnet, and slick LED headlights.

The changes coming to the rear-end will likely be far less visually significant, with a new LED light signature and revised bumper trims the most probable tweaks.

Behind the wheel, the flagship sedan could get the updated infotainment system and driver display from the X7 and X5, but spy photographers haven't managed to snap proof. Given it's meant to be the biggest, baddest cat in the BMW range, we'd bank on OS8.0 featuring here.

What's changing under the skin isn't yet confirmed, but we're expecting the 4.4-litre V8 engine from the new 8 Series to feature in some capacity. Industry scuttlebutt has also hinted at a more powerful, longer-range hybrid in the form of a fresh 745e plug-in.
