Bentley Bentayga Speed to launch this year with 485kW W12 – report
Upcoming performance hero aiming straight for the Lamborghini Urus.
Bentley is believed to be preparing an even higher-performance version of the Bentayga SUV, dubbed the 'Speed', for reveal later this year.
According to a new report by the UK's Autocar, the Bentayga Speed will get a boosted version of the current model's 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12, tuned to deliver 650hp (485kW).
The extra grunt should help the big bus hit 100km/h in under 4.0 seconds and hit a top speed of around 190mph (306km/h).
Currently, the 'standard' W12 Bentayga puts out 447kW and 900Nm, allowing it to dash from 0-100 in 4.1 seconds and ht a top whack of 301km/h.
Under the skin, the flagship performance model is believed to get revisions to the chassis for better handling, while the cabin should be decked out in model-specific trims and bits that evoke its more sporting character.
Key rivals are mainly limited to related vehicles from elsewhere in the Volkswagen Group, including the Lamborghini Urus, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, and the upcoming Audi RS Q8. You could also throw in the Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic with its supercharged V8 too, though it isn't quite compete in the same class in terms of outright performance.
As for timing, the publication expects the Bentayga Speed to be revealed in the coming months, perhaps at the Geneva motor show in March, ahead of a market launch either very late this year or early next.
In Australia, the Bentayga Speed should cost a pretty penny more than the W12 model based on previous Speed models based on the Continental and Flying Spur. Expect a starting price around the $500,000 mark.
