JOSS Developments ‘confirms nor denies’ Mercedes engine deal

Joss Developments, the Australian firm behind the JOSS supercar, has issued a statement in light of recent reports suggesting that it had struck a deal with Mercedes-Benz to use an engine from the AMG stable in its supercar.

Without explicitly naming its potential supplier, JOSS Developments technical director, Matthew Thomas, said that he could "neither confirm nor deny" the rumours.

"At this stage JOSS Developments Limited can neither confirm nor deny recent rumours relating to the supply of a highly technical OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) engine for use in its forthcoming production vehicle, internally code-named JOSS JP1 (JOSS Production One)."

Mr Thomas did however acknowledge that the company had indeed entered into discussions for the commercial supply of a "thoroughbred European-sourced engine" with an undisclosed third party.

Without giving exact details he also confirmed that the engine would be used in conjunction with a bespoke transaxle which CarAdvice knows to be currently in development by Ballarat company, Albins Off Road Gear.

"A formal announcement regarding this topic of engine supply will be made at the appropriate time."
