2018 Hyundai Kona recalled
4969 turbocharged models could potentially have faulty brakes.
Hyundai Australia has issued a recall for turbocharged versions of the 2018 Kona crossover over concerns vehicles could experience compromised brake performance.
The Korean brand reports a manufacturing issue may have caused the front brake tube to have been fitted incorrectly, which could come into contact with the exhaust system.
Over time the brake line can be squashed or ruptured with prolonged contact, which Hyundai says will result in poor brake performance or even brake failure.
If the condition occurs, it can increase the risk of an accident.
There are 4969 units affected by this recall, sold from 20 April 2018 through 11 September 2018. A VIN list is accessible here.
It's worth noting the company has only indicated 1.6-litre turbocharged versions are affected, meaning only all-wheel drive Konas are being recalled. Front-wheel drive models with the 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engines haven't been recalled.
Owners are advised to present their vehicle to their local Hyundai dealer to have their Kona inspected, and repaired if required. All recall work will be carried out free of charge.
