Infiniti QX Inspiration concept unveiled

Crossover previews brand's latest styling direction, and a new electric car platform

The Infiniti QX Inspiration concept has been unveiled ahead of its full debut at the 2019 Detroit motor show in the middle of the month.

According to the company, the QX Inspiration has a "refreshed form language", and like the Q Inspiration sedan before it, points the way towards "the brand's electrified future".

Infiniti says its upcoming electric vehicle platform will allow its cars to feature roomy and lounge-like cabins. Like its rival Lexus, Infiniti is beginning to lean into its Japanese heritage.

Although the concept's interior has yet to revealed, the luxury marque states it will be "hand-crafted using traditional techniques and [feature] a choice of materials inspired by a subtle Japanese sensuality".

The cabin will also feature driver assistance and connectivity technology, which are reportedly imbued with the "Japanese hospitality principle of omotenashi".

As part of a reimagining of the brand, Infiniti is planning to have its entire range electrified from 2021 onwards, with every model available with either a fully electric or series hybrid drivetrain.

The company has yet to reveal any details about the concept's drivetrain. We expect to hear more at the car's in-the-flesh unveiling on January 14, US time, or possibly before then.

When the QX Inspiration is revealed on stage in Detroit, it will be 30 years after the brand made its global debut at the same show.
