2020 Mercedes-AMG A45 power outputs leaked

Standard model to boast 285kW, S variant to have 310kW

Details about the powertrain of the next-generation Mercedes-AMG A45 have been published by a German online insurance website.

The details are available now to anyone trying to obtain an insurance quote from HUK24.

According to the insurer, the A45 will be available in both standard and S forms. The base AMG A45 will have a turbocharged 2.0-litre — 1991 cubic centimetres to be exact — engine cranking out 285kW.

The AMG A45 S is sure to grab all the headlines, though, with a 310kW version of the same engine.

Putting these numbers into perspective, the base version of the new A45 will have more power than the outgoing model, which boasts 280kW to its name.

It will also be a significant step up from the 225kW/400Nm A35, which goes on sale locally during the second half of 2019.

Tobias Moers, head of Mercedes-AMG, confirmed to CarAdvice last year the new A45 would be available with over 300kW of power, and will feature a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

To ensure the new car makes the best use of the engine's output, the A45 will be equipped with an all-wheel drive system with a new drift mode, as demonstrated by the company before Christmas.
