Daihatsu Copen Coupe heading into limited production

The Daihatsu Copen Coupe will make its in-the-flesh debut at the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon before going into a limited production run.

Based on the 2016 Copen Cero concept, the production version of the coupe features a carbon-fibre reinforced plastic roof and a glass rear window which doubles as a hatch.

While the regular folding hardtop convertible has sharp-edged head- and tail-lights, the coupe has round units at both ends for a friendlier personality. It also has revised bumpers and a different grille design.

All of these softer styling elements have also been incorporated into the Copen Cello Sports Premium convertible concept, which will also be displayed at the Tokyo Auto Salon.

The coupe rear quarter panel is pretty much identical to the convertible's, and includes the cut line for the open top model's clamshell boot lid.

Two colour options are available: a British racing green exterior with a beige interior, or a pearl white exterior with a black interior.

Like the convertible, the coupe will have a kei-car compliant 660cc turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine churning out 47kW of power and 92Nm of torque.

Just 200 of the Copen Coupes will be made, with prices starting from ¥ 2,484,000 ($31,050) for the CVT model, and ¥2,505,600 ($31,350) for the five-speed manual.
