2011 Opel/Vauxhall Astra GTC spied
The Opel Astra GTC, also known as the Vauxhall Astra VXR, has been spotted on the streets of Germany wearing rather elaborate camouflage as it ventures out from the brand's development facility for the first time.
Due to become the third model in the Astra line-up alongside the Astra hatch and Astra Sports Tourer, it will also be its most potent with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine sitting under the bonnet.
While performance is its aim, it won’t have undergone quite as an elaborate overhaul as its bigger brother - the Insignia VXR - instead focussing on suspension enhancements and a more aggressive appearance.
The camouflage has done its job well by giving little away about the new Opel Astra GTC, with these spy shots only confirming that the sportiest model will indeed be a three-door.
The prototype will no doubt have to shed its camouflage – and the added weight in the process – when it inevitably makes its way to the Nürburgring.
