2018 Toyota Corolla recalled
2640 examples of the new-generation hatchback could have faulty transmissions.
Toyota Australia has issued a recall for the new-generation Corolla hatchback fitted with the 2.0-litre petrol engine over concerns CVT-equipped models could have faulty transmissions.
"This recall is due to a problem with the torque converter in the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) assembly," Toyota said in its press release.
"There is a possibility that due to a manufacturing error, the blades of the pump impeller in the torque converter may detach, causing damage to the torque converter and potential loss of motive power."
Affected units were produced from August 2018 through October 2018, with the included vehicle tally confirmed at 2640 vehicles.
Toyota says approximately 1100 of the recalled Corollas are already in the company's hands and "will be rectified prior to being delivered".
Replacement parts are anticipated to be available in the 'first half of 2019', with affected owners to be notified when these parts become available.
"Toyota dealers will remove and replace the CVT and torque converter on all affected vehicles, which will take approximately 10 hours to complete. This will be carried out free of charge," the company said.
