2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE: Full line-up detailed for Europe

Australia to get 300d, 400d and 450 models next year.

Mercedes-Benz has given the full rundown of its 2019 GLE range for the European market, touting the fact the new-gen SUV is the first vehicle in its class to comply with the new Euro 6d emissions standard.

In its home market, the new GLE will be offered in four flavours – 300d, 350d, 400d, and 450. As you may have guessed, that's three diesel variants and just one petrol, for now at least.

We already knew the 300d makes 180kW and 500Nm from its 2.0-litre turbo-diesel, along with the 450's 270kW/500Nm outputs from its 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six.

Europe is also getting the 350d, which gets a 200kW/600Nm 3.0-litre inline six turbo-diesel, while the 400d gets beefier 243kW/700Nm outputs from the same capacity.

The six-cylinder diesels both make maximum torque from just 1200rpm, which is basically idle. Mercedes-Benz claims the GLE350d can sprint from 0-100 in 6.9 seconds, while the 400d shaves a whole second of that time with 5.8 seconds.

In fact, the 400d isn't far off the petrol-powered 450's performance claim (5.7 seconds), though the diesel's top speed is 10km/h less than the petrol's at 240km/h – though only those with local Autobahns will be able to use that capability.

Australia

While final pricing and specifications for the local range are still to be announced, Mercedes-Benz's Australian arm has confirmed the GLE300d, GLE400d and GLE450 will be offered Down Under.

First deliveries are expected locally in the second quarter of 2019. Stay tuned to CarAdvice for all the latest in the lead-up to the GLE's Australian launch.
