2020 Audi Q4 spied

Sportier crossover spotted for the first time, sporting a sloping roofline.

The Audi Q4 crossover has been spied between tests at one of the company's evaluation facilities.

Up front the new model doesn't look too far removed from the Q3, with the two vehicles sporting virtually identical headlights. The Q4 does seem to feature a different grille insert, and a revised front bumper design.

It's around the back where the biggest changes have taken place, with the Q3's upright tailgate and D-pillar replaced with more rakish and less practical pieces. There's also a more aggressive design for the rear fascia.

Although nothing's been confirmed yet, we expect the Q4 to feature a touchscreen MMI infotainment system, as well as a similar set of turbocharged drivetrains.

The name of this new "SUV coupe" has yet to be confirmed. While Q4 seems to be the most logical, given the existence of the Q2 and Q8, the Q3 Sportback name has been mooted in the past.

Lending credence to this theory, last month Andreas Mindt, head of exterior design for Audi, told Autocar the Q4 is "a bit more than a coupe version of the Q3, to my eyes a lot more".

A 2016 trademark swap between Audi and Fiat Chrysler gave the German marque the right to the Q2 and Q4 names.

Prior to this agreement, Alfa Romeo used Q2 and Q4 on some model variants, while Maserati applied the Q4 badge to all-wheel drive versions of its Ghibli sedan.
