Land Rover confirms pet-friendly accessories headed for Australia

Apparently half of all Land Rover owners also have four-legged furry friends.

Land Rover has revealed its set of accessories aimed for dogs are headed for our shores, catering for the 50 per cent of its owners who have a furry, four-legged friend.

The brand's new Pet Packs come in a number of flavours, ranging in price from $502 to $2963. The packages are available across the entire range, from the Evoque to the full-fat Range Rover.

Starting at the bottom of the range, the basic pack brings a quilted load-bay liner, a full-height luggage partition, and a spill-resistant water bowl for pampered pooches.

Jumping to the mid-tier package adds a foldable pet carrier and a rubber boot liner, while the most expensive package brings about a load ramp. If you've got little dogs that can't easily jump into the boot of a high-riding Land Rover, that ramp is a handy addition.

With that said, it's capable of supporting up to 85kg. Great Dane owners – or average/above average-sized adults – you're also supported. The accessories were actually first shown in August, in keeping with International Dog Appreciation Day.

The top-spec package also brings about a built-in pet rinse. It holds up to 6.5L of water, and can deliver five minutes of continuous flow depending on settings. Although it's aimed at pet owners, Land Rover also suggests the system could be used for muddy wetsuits or bikes.

A range of dog collars, beds, leashes and bowls are also available, all featuring a suitably British colour scheme.

"Land Rover is all about enjoying the great outdoors and that goes hand-in-hand with dog ownership for many customers," said Finbar McFall, product marketing director.

"Our customers told us that the comfort of their dogs on car journeys is crucial. They are part of the family and we recognise that. Our new Pet Packs aim to allow dogs to travel in real comfort and make journeys simpler and more relaxing for dogs and at the same time protect the inside of owners’ vehicles."

Along with the bundled-up packs, the individual accessories are available from Land Rover dealerships.

Land Rover isn't alone in offering pet-friendly accessories for its SUVs. Skoda offers a range of branded dog harnesses for its vehicles, while Honda actually developed a Kei car aimed at dog owners, too.
