Pininfarina Battista: PF0 hypercar given its official name

Electric hypercar to debut at the 2019 Geneva motor show

Pininfarina's first supercar model has officially been named Battista, replacing the PF0 codename used until now.

While the company has designed plenty of exotic cars for other manufacturers, as well as a plethora of less fancy metal, the Battista is the first vehicle to branded a Pininfarina.

Appropriately, then, the firm has decided to name its first supercar Battista after its founder, Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina.

"My grandfather always had the vision that one day there would be a stand-alone range of Pininfarina-branded cars," Paulo Pininfarina, chairman of Pininfarina, said in a prepared statement.

"This hypercar will boast world-beating performance, technological innovation and of course elegant styling. For me, we simply had to call it Battista. His dream becomes reality today as we link our glorious past with the future of motoring.”

The Pininfarina Battista will use platform and drivetrain technology supplied by Rimac, and is scheduled to enter production in 2020 after making its debut at the 2019 Geneva motor show in March.

To go along with the announcement of the name, the company has released a new set of teaser images for the Battista, giving us our first partial glimpse of the production car's body.

Reports published last week claims Pininfarina will lean on another electric car company for the basis of its second model, a crossover codenamed PF1.

The PF1 will use the skateboard chassis being developed by Rivian for its upcoming R1T pickup truck, and R1S crossover. Rivian's first production cars are slated to start trundling down the company's production line in Illinois from late 2020.
