Four-door 'coupe' given a meaner, wider stance to go along with new drivetrain

The Audi RS7 has been spied whilst doing a spot of cold weather testing in Sweden, following in the footsteps of the A4 Avant covered earlier this week.

Although this isn't the first sighting of the next-generation RS7, it's the first prototype to wear the body panels and bumpers intended for production.

A mule for the RS7 was last seen blasting around the Nurburgring in June, and had hastily expanded the front and rear wheel arches.

In this latest spy photo set we can see the RS7 rides on an impressively large set of alloy wheels.

The front of the car is well disguised, but we expect to see the usual set of over-sized air intakes surrounding the single-frame grille. At the rear there's an aggressive cutout surrounding the RS7's two large oval exhaust tips.

Last year Marc Lichte, Audi's design boss, told Evo the new RS7 will be offered with two drivetrains. The base version will feature a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 based on the engine used in the Porsche Panamera and Bentley Continental GT.

While the entry-level RS7 will have around 485kW/815Nm to its name, an even more powerful plug-in hybrid version will sport around 520kW of power.

This drivetrain is thought to be related to the one employed by the all-wheel drive Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, which pairs a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor.
