2020 Volkswagen Golf sketch revealed

First hint dropped in the lead up to the launch of the next-generation hatch

A sketch previewing the eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf was displayed during the brand's annual session in Wolfsburg, Germany, this week.

The teaser seems to confirm speculation the new Golf will feature a slimline set of headlights. Elsewhere we can see the trailing edge of the rear door will, once again, mirror the shape of the tailgate aperture, tail-light housing and bumper edges.

While the sketch hints at more dynamic styling for car, we're not sure how far Volkswagen will go in pushing the boundaries with one of its most important models.

Spy photos of development mules have revealed the new Golf will be both longer and wider than today's car.

Volkswagen also revealed the products it will launch or reveal next year. New models include all-electric versions of the Lavida and Bora for China, and a long wheelbase version of the T-Cross for both China and Brazil.

Around the middle of the year there will be a new Passat for the US, and an updated version for the rest of the world.

In the second half of the year the company will unveil the new T-Roc convertible crossover. More significantly, in terms of raw sales, is the new Golf.

And just as we're all wrapping our presents, and considering whether we've been naughty or nice, the ID Neo, the first product based on the MEB electric car platform, will go into production.
