2019 BMW M850i pricing and specs

New range-topper to start at $272,900 before on-roads, with everything – including the kitchen sink – standard.

BMW Australia has announced pricing and specs for its incoming M850i xDrive, set to start at $272,900 before on-road costs when it arrives in March 2019.

Two variants will be available from launch: the M850i xDrive Coupe and M850i xDrive Convertible, both powered by the same twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 engine, making the same 390kW and 750Nm. The former will cost $272,900 before on-road costs, the latter $281,900 before on-roads.

Both rely on an xDrive all-wheel drive system, and both come with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard. As a result, the hardtop will hit 100km/h in just 3.7 seconds, while the convertible takes 3.9 seconds to hit the same mark.

Remember, there's an M8 Competition in the works as well – just imagine how fast that'll be.

Standard equipment is, predictably, generous. The M850i will ride on 20-inch alloy wheels as standard, behind which hide M Sport brakes. Power is shuffled between the rear wheels by an M Sport Differential, working with an Adaptive M Suspension with rear-wheel steering and active anti-roll.

BMW is making lots of noise, ahem, about the Sport Exhaust that's standard on both M850i xDrive variants, too.

The hardtop gets the M Carbon Roof and M Rear Spoiler as standard, while the drop-top comes with a black roof that takes 15 seconds to open and close. Keyless entry and soft-close doors are included on both models.

Inside, the 8er will get the full suite of BMW technology. That means a rear-view camera with 3D surround-view monitor, the full 'Driving Assistant Package' with adaptive cruise, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and a night vision camera with pedestrian detection.

The seats, door trims, and steering wheel are all heated, while driver and passenger are both treated to the 'Air Collar' neck warming system. The more expensive Individual Leather Merino Upholstery is standard, along with 'BMW Individual' leather upholstery.

BMW's latest infotainment system, which combines a 12.3-inch instrument binnacle with a 10.25-inch central display, head-up display, and gesture control. As we learned earlier this year, it'll next year also gain voice control to rival the 'Hey Mercedes' capabilities offered by MBUX.
