Proton Australia offers drive away pricing across the range

Proton Cars Australia is currently offering drive away pricing across its entire range in an attempt to resurrect dwindling sales of many of its models in the highly competitive light and small car segments.

The offer is officially “available at participating Proton dealers while stocks last on new Proton vehicles ordered and delivered before June 30, 2010”, but Proton Cars Australia today confirmed that the offer is likely to remain in place while stocks last.

The offer, introduced at the beginning of the month, brings pricing of the entry-level 1.3-litre G spec S16 back down to $11,990, a price where Proton said the car “found its feet” and at which it was most competitive.

The offer ensures that the S16 maintains its position as the lowest cost new car in Australia, while the Gen.2 GXR Auto is the most expensive model in the Proton range, $10,000 above the S16.

Proton Cars Australia general manager sales and operations, Billy Falconer, said he expected the drive away pricing offer would give the brand a competitive advantage over its opponents, especially Savvy and Jumbuck models which are now in run out mode.

“When you compare these drive away prices with our current recommended retail pricing, customers have the potential to save thousands on their purchase of a brand new car, however this offer will only be available while current stocks last so buyers will need to be quick or you could miss out,” Mr Falconer said.

Proton’s Australian sales are up 68 percent year-to-date compared with 2009, thanks entirely to the success of the S16 sedan.

Its sales accounted for 55 percent (or 473) of Proton’s 862 sales in the first five months of the year. Sales of all other models declined by between 0.6 percent and 51.2 percent.

The S16 made up 0.5 percent of the sub-$25K light car segment in May, trailing market leaders like the Hyundai Getz (17.8 percent), Toyota Yaris (16.6 percent) and Mazda2 (10.3 percent).
