Jaguar Land Rover to skip Geneva motor show

Jaguar Land Rover won't have a presence at the Geneva motor show in March 2019, according to a new report from Europe.

Autocar is reporting the British marques are "looking at the effectiveness of each motor show individually" and, rather than paying to attend the 2019 show, will pour the money into its own launch events.

According to the report, the decision is part of JLR's plan to improve its cashflow and cut unnecessary spending, after slower-than-expected demand in both Europe and China.

The move is part of wider industry push away from the traditional motor show model. Volkswagen skipped the Paris motor show, Volvo is skipping Geneva, while the big three German brands won't be making an appearance in Motor City next year.

Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover CEO, earlier this year told CarAdvice the main issue behind its sales slowdown was "slower demand for our diesel vehicles" after Dieselgate, but a 'perfect storm' of issues contributed.

Uncertainty about the Chinese and American trade war hasn't helped, either, forcing the company to earlier this year pause production at its factory in Solihull, UK.

The plant stoppage was a big deal for Jaguar Land Rover, given it produces the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Land Rover Discovery, Jaguar F-Pace and Range Rover Velar there.
