Mid-sized sports sedan set to launch next year with six variants, two engines, lots of kit.

The model line-up for the upcoming 2019 Genesis G70 appears to have been confirmed this week, with six variants of the new sports sedan set to lob when it launches next year.

How do we know? A list of variants was published in this week's latest ANCAP safety test results – where the G70 was awarded a five-star rating.

Like the related Kia Stinger, the G70 will offer both four- and six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines, and be exclusively rear-wheel drive in Australia.

Going by the list on the ANCAP document, there will be three trim levels for each powertrain, with four-cylinder models dubbed 'G70', 'G70 Sport' and 'G70 Ultimate', while the V6 will offer 'G70 Sport', 'G70 Ultimate' and 'G70 Ultimate Sport' versions.

Specifications are still yet to be confirmed, but we know all variants will be fitted with low- and high-speed autonomous emergency braking featuring pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist as standard.

On the company's local website, some of the available features mentioned include adaptive suspension, Brembo brakes, acoustic laminated glass, nappa leather upholstery, a Lexicon 15-speaker premium sound system, a head-up display, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a wireless phone charging pad.

Also on the available equipment list are automatic high-beam, adaptive cruise control with stop/go, a 360-degree camera system, full-LED headlights, aluminium and stainless steel interior trims, a suede headliner, heated and ventilated front seats with heated outboard rear pews, a power-adjustable steering column with memory, and a 7.0-inch TFT driver's information display.

The engine range includes two well-known powerplants from the Hyundai/Kia stable, both shared with the Stinger – a 180kW/353Nm 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder and a 272kW/510Nm 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6. Both drive the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters.

Hyundai's local division was unable to confirm any further details regarding a full specification breakdown, timing or pricing for the G70.

So far we've seen the launch of the Genesis brand in Australia delayed several times, after initially being slated for the latter half of 2017. The G70 was initially forecast for an April-May arrival in Australia this year, and will now be around a year behind schedule.
