Hyundai offers to race Mini after Porsche declines

There's been an automotive stoush brewing over the last few days. The American head of Mini, a Mr Jim McDowell, who was a former Porsche executive, had issued a challenge to motoring and racing giant Porsche. It was, well, let's let the video below explain it:


Porsche replied, saying, "While your challenge seems like a fun and lighthearted campaign, we'll stick to racing the way we have over the decades. We welcome you at Sebring, Le Mans, Daytona or any other sanctioned race where there is more at stake than T-shirts and valet parking spaces."

McDowell, undeterred, decided to follow up, publishing this video:

Now, Hyundai has stepped into the foray, offering to take Porsche's place.

You've got to say that the Korean company's boldness is commendable, but whether Mini views this as serious is another story. We'll keep you posted on any developments.
