2019 Suzuki Jimny, Vitara: Australia Day launch locked in

All-new baby off-roader and popular crossover set to hit showrooms on January 26.

Suzuki Australia has confirmed the hotly-anticipated 2019 Jimny and facelifted 2019 Vitara Series II will officially go on sale Down Under as of Australia Day next month (January 26).

Pricing and specifications for both model lines are yet to be announced at this stage, but the company continues to cite strong interest for the all-new Jimny, which already has "well over 200 pre-orders" in Australia.

"Both the Jimny and Vitara have a strong heritage and following in Australia, which has been none more evident than the demand for pre-orders since the all-new Jimny was confirmed for the Australian market," said Michael Pachota, general manager for Suzuki Australia.

"The Vitara that Australians know and love only gets better with considerable improvements to safety and design. The new Vitara will certainly continue to maintain its outstanding value for money for consumers."

While Australian details will be confirmed closer to launch, the Jimny was recently priced and specified for the UK, with features like autonomous emergency braking, DAB digital radio, air-conditioning, and front fog-lights included at the base level.

Power comes from a 75kW 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, hooked up to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission and selectable four-wheel drive system.

We're expecting all Australian models to get the company's familiar 7.0-inch touchscreen navigation system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard equipment, too.

Meanwhile, the refreshed Vitara Series II (above) should see the addition of driver assistance technologies like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane-departure warning included as standard across the range or at least available from the base level – something that's lacking in the current model.

Going by European models, there's also an updated instrument cluster, increased use of soft-touch materials, LED tail-lights, and revised bumpers on the way, too.

The entry-level 86kW 1.6-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine has been dropped for the Swift's 82kW 1.0-litre turbocharged unit in Europe as well – it's unconfirmed whether this will be carried over to Australia.

Stay tuned to CarAdvice for a full pricing and specifications breakdown in the lead-up to the Jimny and Vitara's local launch on January 26.
