Here’s a look at what happened on the week of December 4 in years past.

5 December 2017: Lamborghini Urus revealed

Under the bonnet, the Urus is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 cranking out 485kW of power at 6000rpm and 850Nm of torque between 2250rpm and 4500rpm.

Lamborghini says the Urus weighs under 2200kg, and can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds, and 0-200km/h in 12.8 seconds. With a top speed of 305km/h, the Urus lays claim to being the world's fastest SUV.

4 December 2016: McLaren 675LT Spider revealed

The new hard-top convertible supercar is described by the company as "the most focused, fastest and exhilarating open top McLaren model ever built", with its 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine producing 497kW of power and 700Nm of torque.

It can sprint from 0-100km/h in a claimed 2.9 seconds, while the next benchmark - 200km/h - is reached in just 8.1 seconds, just 0.2sec slower than the Coupe. The Spider's top speed is 326km/h.

4 December 2014: Ferrari FXX K revealed

The new car is based on the LaFerrari hybrid, the K suffix in the name is a reference to the car's KERS or kinetic energy recovery system. Despite being a track-only vehicle, the FXX K doesn't have to comply with any racing regulations as it will only be available to owners during closed competitions and events organised by Ferrari.

5 December 2013: Ford Mustang revealed

Ford has unveiled the first official pictures and details of its sixth-generation muscle car that will become a global car and built in right-hand drive officially for the first time in its near-50-year history. It goes on sale in the US in late 2014 before reaching Australia in late 2015, where it will become the company's local hero car as the Falcon is phased out by late 2016.

Not only is it a local hero model, the Mustang has become a sales success for the Blue Oval. Since its release Down Under in 2016, the Mustang has maintained a stronghold on the sports car segment locally, and is consistently Ford's best-selling passenger car, second only to the Ranger ute.

5 December 2012: Audi RS6 Avant revealed

Being roughly 100kg lighter than the 2025kg previous generation RS6, performance from the new RS6 Avant's twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 powerplant is assured. With a power figure of 412kW and 700Nm of torque available from 1750rpm, the quattro all-wheel drive family wagon on steroids will hit three figures in 3.9 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 305km/h.

In car years, the current-generation RS6 is a bit of a grandpa at six years old. However, it remains one of the fastest and desirable family haulers around.

6 December 2010: Lamborghini rules out SUV, says yes to four-door sedan

We really have a choice when it comes to an additional model: an SUV or a four-seat four-door. And for me the SUV is a no-go. It doesn’t exist in our price segment, and it’s not a real luxury car – Stephan Winkelmann

How ironic that exactly seven years after ruling out a crossover, Lamborghini revealed the Urus.

4 December 2009: Honda P-Nut concept revealed in LA

Honda has unveiled a concept car at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show with the face of Darth Vader, the seating configuration of a McLaren F1 and the name of a legume.

The seating layout was designed to give all passengers the legroom of a mid-size sedan and to fold flat to provide extra storage space, while the swooping glass windscreen/roof acts as a heads-up display for the navigation system and reversing camera.
