Ssangyong confirms seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty

Placing it right at the pointy end of market with Kia. The company isn't messing around with its relaunch.

That's right folks, there's another member of the seven-year warranty gang. And, it's another Korean.

While spilling some details about its upcoming new range of vehicles, including the Musso, Rexton and Tivoli, Ssangyong has confirmed it will offer a seven-year warranty across its range.

But wait, there's more: it's unlimited kilometres. There's also a seven-year service pricing schedule (which hasn't been detailed yet), and seven years of roadside assistance.

After a two-year hiatus, this puts Ssangyong right at the top of the warranty pile alongside trend-setting Kia. Others have done it, but only as a limited-time offer.

Speaking with CarAdvice in July, Tim Smith, Ssangyong Australia boss, said the long warranty is designed to give the brand a "level of service other small OEMs trying to crack in can't" offer.

Although the factory warranty is five-year and unlimited kilometres, and Ssangyong's UK importer limits coverage to seven years, 150,000mi on the dual-cab Musso, Smith made it clear he wanted "market-leading" coverage for the relaunch Down Under. Now, we know he's got it.

Smith has experience with 'new' brands locally, having joined Ssangyong from Haval.

The new coverage period absolutely belittles the now austere looking typical three-year offering that's fast becoming an endangered species, as well as the more common five-year warranty from the likes of Hyundai, HondaMazda, SkodaHolden and Ford.

Toyota, Volkswagen, Nissan, Suzuki and Subaru are holding fast to three year warranties on their new vehicles, special offers not withstanding.
