Peugeot 308 hits 1 million units

3008 SUV also celebrates production milestone, ticking over 500,000 units.

Peugeot has produced its one millionth 308 this past week, along with the 500,000th 3008, both rolling down the production line at almost the same time.

According to the French brand, the 308 is being built at a rate of 860 vehicles per day, while the 3008 is running at over 1000 units a day. The plant is said to be running seven days a week to meet global demand.

The current generation 308 hatchback and wagon range first launched in 2013, while the 3008 was introduced globally in 2016.

Peugeot says the 3008 is now the third best-selling vehicle in its home market of France, a market that is traditionally dominated by passenger cars. The 308, meanwhile, is France's sales leader in the C-segment.

In Australia, the French brand sells on a smaller scale, though the 3008 has quickly become its most popular model.

For the month of October, the company's CX-5 fighter managed 109 registrations, and is sitting at 1174 year-to-date (YTD) as of October 31.

While it slipped 22.1 per cent compared to the same month in 2017, YTD sales are up a healthy 163.8 per cent in its first full year on sale.

The 308 was Peugeot's second-best seller in October, with 98 registrations. It's 88.5 per cent up on the same month in 2017, though its YTD figure of 327 units is 57.8 per cent down on the same period last year.
