2019 Honda CR-V VTi-S will get AEB from January

Local arm expands availability of Honda Sensing tech suite to one-from-top grade for $1000 increase.

Honda Australia has announced it will add the Honda Sensing technology suite – incorporating assistance features like autonomous emergency and adaptive cruise control – to the 2019 CR-V VTi-S from the start of next year.

The move means the active safety equipment will be standard fit on every all-wheel drive variant (the other being the flagship VTi-LX) of the top-selling CR-V locally from January 1, though it's still limited to two variants out of six.

In addition to the aforementioned AEB and adaptive cruise control (with 'low-speed follow') systems, the Honda Sensing package brings lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, road departure mitigation, along with forward collision warning.

Specification will otherwise carryover, which includes 18-inch alloy wheels, a 7.0-inch navigation system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an electric tailgate, the LaneWatch side view camera system, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry with push-button start, and a full-size spare wheel.

The standard fitment of Honda Sensing will bring a $1000 price increase, however, meaning the VTi-S AWD will start at $36,490 before on-road costs as of January 1, 2019.

When quizzed as to why only the all-wheel drive VTi-S received the upgrade, Honda Australia's PR manager, Naomi Rebeschini, said:

"In this instance we have worked with our factory to equip all-wheel-drive variants of CR-V first and then will roll out across the remaining CR-V range," she said.

"We are working hard to add Honda Sensing to the CR-V range as soon as possible."

Honda's local division has already indicated its plans to bring the Honda Sensing suite to its entire line-up in the coming years, set to kick off with the all-new Accord late next year, which will get the features as standard across the range.

"While we are not first to market with this technology, we strive to ensure we are best to market. I'm confident that our Honda Sensing package will provide Australian customers with a system that is intuitive and effective in its role of driver assistance," Stephen Collins, director of Honda Australia, said earlier this year.

"Honda is committed to bringing cars to the Australian market that are competitively priced and value-packed as possible, and having the very best in safety technology is one of our highest priorities."
