2019 Lincoln Aviator unveiled

Production crossover remains true to the concept car revealed earlier this year

The Lincoln Aviator has been unveiled at the 2018 Los Angeles motor show.

Although the new three-row crossover is unlikely to ever show up on Australian shores, it rides on the same rear- and all-wheel drive platform as the next-generation Ford Explorer.

The top-spec Aviator Grand Touring model will be fitted with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 at its core. Lincoln says this powertrain will have around 335kW of power and 815Nm of torque.

Lincoln has yet to provide estimates for the Aviator's electric-only range, but does state the battery pack is stored under the floor and doesn't deprive the owner of cargo capacity or a full-size spare.

Other models in the Aviator range will be fitted with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 with 298kW of power and 542Nm of torque. A 10-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive an optional extra.

Standard features include a 12.3-inch customisable instrumentation screen, a Wi-Fi hotspot, traffic jam assist, evasive steering assistance, automated parking, and autonomous braking when in reverse.

Available items include "perfect position" seats with 30-way electric adjustment, wireless smartphone charging, a 28-speaker Revel Ultima 3D sound system, phone-as-a-key functionality, and an adaptive front suspension system which uses a forward facing camera to scan the road ahead.

The Aviator has an interior rich with modern wood accents, metal and wall-to-wall leather. If the latest Continental and Navigator are any guide, the cabin of the Aviator will be distinct from the upcoming Explorer.

The Lincoln Aviator is slated to go on sale next year in the US and China.
