2020 Genesis G90 facelift unveiled

Updated sedan is the production debut of the brand's new 'Athletic Elegance' design theme.

The facelifted Genesis G90 was unveiled overnight in South Korea, and its design can be best described as polarising.

The upstart luxury marque has grafted elements from the 2018 Essentia concept coupe on to formal body of the G90, and is the first production implementation of the brand's 'Athletic Elegance' design language.

Externally, the G90 features new front and rear quarter panels, bonnet, boot lid, headlights, tail-lights, and bumpers. The only exterior panels carried over are the doors and the roof.

Up front, there's a new set of LED headlights bisected by a Volvo-like set of driving lights, and the a large five-point grille, which in its attempt to be athletic clashes with the car's overall upright shape.

Behind the front wheel arches there's a new set of, possibly fake, vents. The display car's 19-inch alloy wheels has ground-matrix design "inspired by the patterns seen when shining diamonds in the light".

Around the back, the chunky vertical tail-lights have been replaced two strips of LEDs that run into deep into the boot lid.

Changes to the interior are less dramatic, with trim changes, and upgrades to the infotainment system taking centre stage. Other new features include active suspension, and noise cancelling technology, which is claimed to reduce road noise by three to four decibels.

The G90's safety list now includes rear cross-traffic alert, navigation-linked adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, a surround view camera system, and autonomous emergency braking.

Australia

Hyundai Australia has previously ruled out the G90 for the local market, as it is currently only available in left-hand drive.
