Jaguar XKR Goodwood Edition to go into production

Reports out of the UK this morning indicate a higher powered version of Jaguar's sports coupe, the XKR, will go into production. First seen in these photographs, it was a one-off special for the Goodwood Festival of Speed, yet the new XKR is expected to have a power figure north of 390kW, forcing the staff here at CarAdvice to collectively mutter a "yes, please".

It will also feature 21-inch wheels, a different exhaust and a torque figure of around 700Nm from its tweaked 5.0-litre supercharged engine. To satisfy the German market, the new XKR is said to have a top speed in excess of 300km/h, and according to UK magazine Autocar, it has already lapped the Nurburgring in 7 minutes 58 seconds. Not bad at all.

It's expected to launch later this year, with Jaguar boss Mike O'Driscoll reported as telling UK site Pistonheads, ""This is definitely not a level of performance anyone would have associated with the XKR before now."

With Jaguar and Aston Martin playing friendly next-door neighbour rivalry, it'll be interesting to see how the new XKR compares with Aston's, ahem, astonishing V12 Vantage.
