2019 Suzuki Jimny priced from £15,499 in the UK

Baby off-roader detailed for Britain ahead of January on-sale date.

The all-new 2019 Suzuki Jimny has been priced and specified for the UK market, with the little Japanese off-roader to kick off at £15,499 ($27,475) in Britain.

Scheduled to go on sale in the UK from January 2019, the Jimny will be offered in two trim levels – SZ4 and SZ5 – both fitted as standard with a five-speed manual transmission and a selectable four-wheel drive system. Power across the range comes from a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine making 101PS (75kW).

From the base level, the Jimny will come equipped with air-conditioning, autonomous-emergency braking, DAB digital radio, a CD player, bluetooth phone connectivity, and front fog-lights.

There's also hill descent control, lane departure warning, high-beam assist and six airbags all included as standard – though in September the Jimny received a disappointing three-star Euro NCAP safety rating due to several factors. Read more about that here.

Stepping up to the SZ5 – from £17,999 ($31,892) – adds 15-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, climate control, a 7.0-inch touchscreen navigation system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED headlights, along with heated front seats.

The SZ5 comes as standard with the five-speed manual shifter, with the optional four-speed automatic asking for £18,999 ($33,664).

As for options, the Jimny will be offered in a range of six colours, with metallic finishes asking for an extra £485 ($859). Two-tone paint jobs will also be available, priced at £650 ($1151).

While sales don't officially commence until the new year, Suzuki reported earlier this year there is strong demand in the UK for its pint-sized off-roader, while the first year's allocation in the Jimny's home market of Japan was reportedly sold out within a month.

Australia

The new-gen Jimny is slated for a January 2019 launch Down Under, and Suzuki's local arm had 123 pre-orders as of the end of September.

While pricing and specifications for our market are yet to be announced, the Jimny is expected to start around the $25,000 mark for the entry-level variant and top out at around $30k.

Like UK models, the Jimny should be fitted as standard with autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning in Australia, and we reckon the 7.0-inch navigation system with smartphone mirroring should be included at the base level too.

Both manual and automatic options are expected to be offered in Australia as well. For now, stay tuned to CarAdvice for all the latest updates.
