2019 Ford Focus Active pricing and specs

Ford confirms full pricing and specs for its jacked-up Focus, set to arrive next year.

Ford has confirmed the Focus Active is coming to Australia next year, with pricing to kick off at $29,990 before on-road costs.

With tougher looks and 34mm more ground clearance than the regular Focus hatchback, the Active sports a pseudo-SUV stance a similar vein to Audi Allroad or Volvo Cross Country models.

There are skid plates front and rear, along with a unique front bumper incorporating LED fog-lights with cornering function. There's also additional cladding for the wheel arches, a tougher rear bumper, model-specific 17-inch alloys and twin exhaust tips to round out the look.

Power comes from the same 1.5-litre EcoBoost three-cylinder turbo engine as the wider Focus range, making 134kW and 240Nm. It's hooked up to an eight-speed automatic transmission, driving the front wheels exclusively. Those looks might be tougher, sure, but the Active isn't available with all-wheel drive.

With that said, Ford has gone to the effort of creating two new drive modes: Slippery and Trail. Both are fairly self-explanatory – Slippery is designed for snow or ice, while Trail is designed for softer surfaces, like a sandy campsite trail.

As with the wider Focus range, the Active offers generous standard equipment. Keyless entry, push-button start, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning and a rear-view camera are all standard.

If you're willing to stump $1250 for the Driver Assistance Pack, that suite of active safety kit expands to include adaptive cruise control with stop&go function, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and reverse autonomous emergency braking.

Prestige paint is a $650 option, while the Design Pack requires an extra $1800 outlay. It brings 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights with scrolling indicators, and privacy glass.

The panoramic sunroof is another $2000, though features like a head-up display and active park assist are reserved for the Focus Titanium hatchback.

Inside, you get an 8.0-inch touchscreen running Sync 3 offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The seats and door trims get Nordic Blue contrast stitching, and there are Active kick plates on the doors, lest you forget what you're driving while entering or exiting the car.

Ford says the car will be here in the first half of 2019.
