MG unveils eZS electric car

The brand's first ever electric model to go on sale in China next year

MG has unveiled the eZS, a fully-electric version of its compact ZS SUV, at the Guangzhou motor show.

Set to be launched in its home market next year, the eZS is likely to be powered by a 110kW, 350Nm electric motor attached to the front wheels.

MG has not yet revealed any further details of the batteries powering the eZS, only that it'll accelerate from 0-50km/h in 3.1 seconds.

We do know, however, MG has partnered with Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology, which is currently the world's largest manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles.

The eZS should be good for a range of 431km between charges. However, that figure is measured on the older NEDC test cycle, which tends to be more lenient. Expect mid-to-high 300kms once measured under the new WLTP cycle.

While Chinese availability is confirmed, and European availability is likely, details on an Australian launch are yet to be announced by MG.
