2019 Honda Passport teased, not for Australia – UPDATE
New crossover will fill the gap between the CR-V and Pilot, and clearly knows how to kick up some dust.
The Honda Passport crossover has been teased ahead of its full debut later this month at the 2018 Los Angeles motor show.
The Passport is expected to sit between the CR-V and Pilot in size and price, with space for five inside. As such, it will face off against the Hyundai Santa Fe and Ford Edge in the American market.
The latest CR-V measures 4587mm long, 1854mm wide, 1679mm tall, and rides on a 2659mm wheelbase. On the other hand, the Pilot is 4940mm long, 1996mm wide, 1773mm tall, and has a 2819mm wheelbase.
Power for the CR-V comes exclusively from four-cylinder engines, while the larger Pilot can only be had with a 3.5-litre V6.
Honda has confirmed the Passport will be built at its plant in Lincoln, Alabama, where the Pilot is made.
With North American CR-Vs constructed in Indiana and Ontario, as well as numerous design similarities, it seems industry chatter about the Passport being very closely related to the Pilot is true.
It's likely the Passport will feature a shorter rear overhang, a less upright tailgate and, possibly, a shorter wheelbase than the Pilot.
The new Passport will be unveiled on November 27, US time, ahead of sales beginning some time next year.
Australia
Developed by Honda of the Americas, it's possible the Passport is a left-hand drive only vehicle.
Honda Australia has informed us there are currently no plans to bring the Passport to Australia.
