Subaru WRX STI Diamond Edition revealed for South Africa

Super-exclusive special edition gets extra power and bright yellow accents.

Subaru South Africa has announced the WRX STI Diamond Edition to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Subaru Technica International (STI).

Developed by the South African division, the Diamond Edition is the most powerful version of the WRX STI offered globally, retuned to deliver a meaty 349hp (260kW) and 342lb-ft (464Nm).

Subaru claims the Diamond Edition will hit 100km/h in 5.03 seconds (compared to 5.76 seconds in the standard car), on its way to a top speed of 255km/h.

By comparison, the 'regular' Australian-market WRX STI makes 221kW and 407Nm from its 2.5-litre turbocharged 'boxer' engine.

Other distinguishing features include the neon yellow body kit add-ons and matching brake calipers, which are six-piston units up front and two-piston units at the rear.

Rounding out the enhancements for the limited edition are 20mm spacers for a wider stance, an STI engine brace, and 'Diamond Edition' badging.

Just 30 examples of the Diamond Edition will be available for South Africa, and it appears this version is exclusive to that market. If you're reading this from South Africa, you can register your interest here.

Australia

Subaru's local division confirmed there are no plans to bring the WRX STI Diamond Edition or something similar to our market for the time being. Bummer.
