2020 Jeep Gladiator leaked

New ute will be available with diesel and soft-top options, and it looks mean.

The new Jeep Gladiator has surfaced online ahead of its debut at the Los Angeles motor show, offering an unimpeded view of its Wrangler-based design.

The Jeep Gladiator Forum has procured and published photos of the upcoming ute, which will go on sale in the United State next year.

In addition to press photos, the forum managed to secure a summary sheet from the press package, revealing the Gladiator will be powered exclusively by a 3.6-litre V6 at the start of its production run.

This engine is fitted with automatic engine stop/start as standard, and can be mated to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.

American buyers will, from 2020, be able to opt for a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 with a standard eight-speed auto and automatic engine stop/start.

No fuel economy or performance figures have been leaked, but we do know the Gladiator will be fitted with aluminium doors, bonnet, and wheel arches, along with an aluminium windscreen frame and tailgate.

The four-door Crew Cab Gladiator seen here has a cargo tray measuring 1.5 metres long, available with tie-down points and a covered external power source. Four-wheel drive variants have a 3470kg tow rating, and a payload capacity of 725kg.

Depending on the model, the new Gladiator can be specified with Command-Trac or Rock-Trac four-wheel drive system, Dana 44 axles, electric front- and rear-axle lockers, a limited-slip differential, and electronic sway bar disconnect.

The car is also available with 33-inch off-road tyres, and can ford water up to 76cm (30 inches) deep.

As with other Wrangler derivatives, the new Gladiator can be had with either a folding soft-top or a two different hardtop designs. There will also be myriad door, windscreen and roof configurations available.

Other interesting features include a fold-down front windscreen, and a forward-facing camera, which can be used by the driver to spot off-road obstructions more easily.

On the inside, the Gladiator can be fitted with either 7.0- or 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment touchscreen, both with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring.
