Mercedes-Benz A200d, A220d revealed in Europe
New diesel variants aren't coming to Australia, but they're likely to make up a significant proportion of sales in Europe.
Mercedes-Benz has revealed a pair of diesel A-Class variants for Europe, with power from two versions of the same 2.0-litre engine.
Both models will sit above the 1.5-litre A180d in the European A-Class range, with power from 'OM654' engines designed to put Mercedes ahead of the curve on Real Driving Emissions 2 standards coming into force in 2020.
The A200d makes 110kW of power and 320Nm of torque, while the A220d makes 140kW and 400Nm from the same basic unit. An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission is standard, with no manual option.
Mercedes claims both will achieve 65.7mpg (4.3L/100km) on the combined cycle, emitting between 110 and 114g/km of CO2 in the process. You'll hit 100km/h in 8.1 seconds in the 200d and 7.0 seconds in the 220d.
Pricing for the A200d Sport will kick off at £28,805 ($51,600), while the A220d AMG Line starts at £30,005 ($53,750).
The former comes with DAB radio, keyless start and carbon-fibre trim standard, while the AMG Line gains a sports steering wheel, AMG styling and bigger wheels.

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed the diesel A-Class variants won't be coming to Australia at this point, citing low demand. According to the company, less than five per cent of previous-generation cars were specced with a diesel engine.
