2019 Toyota Corolla sedan front end teased
North American model will sport a different front fascia to the hatch
The North American version of the 12th-generation Toyota Corolla sedan has been teased ahead of its debut on November 15, US time.
Again, we've done a little bit of Photoshop work to bring out some of the details initially hidden in the shadows.
While the American Corolla sedan will feature the same headlights as the hatch, the rest of the front fascia has been redesigned.
Unlike the hatch, the sedan's upper grille is a thin, unadorned, and almost completely rectangular strip connecting the left and right headlamp units. The Toyota badge has been moved from the grille to a narrow wedge of land between the grille and the bonnet's leading edge.
Although the sedan still features a large lower air intake, it is visually distinct from the upper fascia, and is flanked by faux air intakes fitted with horizontal LED fog lights.
It's possible, given the sporty styling and the fog lamps, the model seen here is a top-of-the-range variant. Volume-selling versions may have slightly toned down styling.
This latest teaser comes days after Toyota China announced it will unveil its Corolla and Levin sedans on November 16 at the Guangzhou motor show. Given timezone differences, it seems both the Chinese and North American versions will step out at around the same time.
Under the skin, the new sedan will ride on the same TNGA platform as its hatch and wagon siblings. This should result in a lighter and more rigid vehicle with improve handling.
We expect the new Corolla sedan to be available with a four-cylinder petrol engine in both hybrid and non-hybrid setups.
For the current sedan, Toyota has tailored the look of the Corolla for different world markets, with the version sold in Asia, Europe and Asia featuring plenty of chrome for a more upmarket look, while American buyers are treated to sportier styling.
We don't know Toyota will continue with this tradition for the next-generation model.
