Civic Type R v i30 N v Megane RS drag race – video

While the small hot hatch segment is bursting at the seams these days, but three recently-released models stick out as driver's picks – the Honda Civic Type R, Hyundai i30 N, and Renault Megane RS.

Britain's Top Gear pits these three front-drive manual hot hatches against each other in a new video posted on YouTube, to see which is fastest in a straight line.

On paper, the trio are evenly matched – the Civic makes 228kW/400m from its 2.0-litre turbo, the i30 202kW/353Nm from the same displacement, while the Megane puts out 205kW/390Nm from its slightly smaller turbocharged 1.8-litre mill.

All three send grunt to the front wheels through six-speed manual transmissions – but which is your best bet to win a traffic light duel?
