McLaren Senna GTR: Downforce, suspension specifics revealed

The track-only Senna is going to be a seriously sticky customer.

McLaren has revealed specifics about its upcoming Senna GTR track flagship, offering details about the car's suspension and monstrous aerodynamics package.

The Senna GTR will draw on a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine making 607kW and 800Nm, but the headline figure is the 1000kg of downforce it'll make thanks to a revised aerodynamics package.

McLaren hasn't confirmed how fast you need to be to actually create those numbers, but we'd suggest the speedo will need to be showing north of 250km/h.

Suspension borrowed from McLaren's GT3 racers will be standard as well, supporting a wider track and more aggressive camber than the road car. Buyers will get centre-lock wheels, while the carbon-fibre body offers wider fenders, a bigger front splitter and rear diffuser, and a fresh rear wing.

According to the company, the diffuser and wing have been 'coupled' to offer greater downforce than the already-sticky road car, while the car should be more stable under brakes thanks to the upgrades.

Pirelli slick tyres round out the upgrades, allowing drivers to fully exploit the GTR's performance on a warm, dry track. As for when it rains? We'd suggest sticking to the road car.

Just 75 examples of the GTR will be built, priced from £1.1 million ($1.99 million) before on-road costs. Don't bother looking behind the couch cushions and getting your spare change together – they're all sold.
